JAMES VINEYARD

James Vineyard began in 2015 and is built on just over 140 acres on the Wahluke Slope. James Vineyard is owned by Saddle Mountain Vineyard, LLC. The site as a whole is extremely rocky, with 2 ft. of top soil, 2-3 ft. of sub-soil, and an elevation of 1,150 ft.
The earliest blocks were planted in 2016. James Vineyard is predominately Cabernet Sauvignon, at just over 58 acres. Bonarda, Cabernet Franc, Charbono, Grenache, Malbec, Merlot, Mourvedre, and Syrah make up the rest of the site with varying acreage shown below.

vineyard name origin

James Vineyard is named after Tedd Wildman’s late son, James Spencer Wildman. When the site was initially purchased in 2015, James spent many days prepping the site with his father. Until he made the decision to dedicate himself to a career in firefighting, James was considering working for Saddle Mountain Vineyards full-time with Tedd. In January of 2017, James tragically passed away in a traffic accident at the age of 23. The vineyard had remained unnamed those first two years, and given his deep connection to the site’s beginning, it seemed only fitting to name the new vineyard for James.

history
